Logo creation for businesses

Logo creation for businesses

Vector logos and raster logos. Which type of logo should you choose for your business

What is a good logo

The logo is the gateway for any prospect in their relationship with a company. It’s the first thing you see, and it must catch the eye. It’s the number 1 communication vector for a brand, essential for creating a strong identity.

A logo must:

  • Be quickly recognizable
  • Convey a clear message in a very short time
  • Be able to be adapted into several versions, in several forms
  • Adapt to multiple media and formats
  • Be understandable to everyone, whatever the culture or language.
  • Fit in with current graphic best practices
  • Stand the test of time

Creating a logo is the art of conveying a focused and clear emotion in a short span of time.

The different types of logos

When creating a brand identity and a website, creating a logo quickly becomes inevitable. There are several types of logos:

  • Vector logos
Vector logos are made from vectors, mathematical formulas that allow them to be enlarged infinitely without any loss of quality. The logo’s definition / resolution does not suffer from enlarging it, because it does not contain pixelated images but lines or curves calculated by the machine that displays it. They are essential for companies that need to print or display their logo on very large surfaces (billboards, urban signage). This is the most widespread category of logo among print and web communication agencies. They are designed using vector software such as AI (Adobe Illustrator).

  • Raster logos
Unlike vector logos, raster logos are made with pixels. They have the advantage of being able to incorporate external images / symbols but have the disadvantage of losing resolution as soon as the logo is enlarged. This is not necessarily a disadvantage when the logo is only intended to be used on the web or on media of moderate dimensions.
